The great schism
The great schism was an event that didn't happen once, but predominately twice. The first Great Schism was called the East and West schism and occurred when the Catholic Roman Church was divided into two parts. This then led to the beginning of the eastern orthodox church and the Rome catholic church. This caused some small conflict but just left a bad relationship between the two churches,
The second great schism occurred in from 1378-1417 and was due to the leaders of the Catholic divisioning them selves from others and causing issues. This led to the separation of parts of the church as well as around 50 years of war.

The rise of Scientific Rationalism
Scientific rationalization was a tine when the teaching of many different philosophers began taking their ideas to the church. Peter Waldo was one of the first scientific rationalists as he translated the bible for all of the other Christians to read. him doing this allowed many people to understand allot more about the faith and some areas where the faith is incorrect and taking advantage of people. the rise of scientific rationalism was not supported by the church at all and was dealt with accordingly. Over time scientific rationalism became a much more 'socially' acceptable thing to be done as more free speech is introduced.
reformation of the church
Reformation of the christian church happened many times throughout history and was when a someone typically a theologist had ideas about what and what not was being done correctly by the church. This is very similar to scientific rationalization but instead using the knowledge of the theologoists. Martin Luther was one of the biggest reformists as we created a reformation of the church called the Lutheran church.
Jhon Calvin
Jhon Calvin was the leader of the protestant reformation. Jhon was a french theologist who began studying as a priest and then as a lawyer during his time in France. After his time of study he developed am interest in theology. With this he wrote a book similar to Martin Luther theses in Geneva and his ideas of reformation f the church were appreciated by the people at the time. His teaching involved the separation of the christian church and the government giving god total control. thus was not appreciated by some people.
Jhon Wycliffe
Jhon Wycliffe was a highly respected theologist during the 15 th century and he strictly believed that Christians had the right to read and interperate the bible for them selves. John wanted to reform the church to allow for this to occur but at the time the church was strongly apposing people from doing this. The church opposed as misunderstanding of the faith gave them power. Jhon disagreed with this as he had learnt throughout his tine as a theologist and studying as a priest/lawyer. John has reformed the church to become an open place of free speech and understanding as this was passed through almost all versions of Christianity.
